Volpe Named Tarry Professor in Ophthalmology


Ophthalmologist named chair of the department in September

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Nicholas J. Volpe, M.D., professor and chair of the department of ophthalmology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, has been named the George S. and Edwina Tarry Professor in Ophthalmology.

Volpe is recognized nationally and internationally for his contributions to the field of neuro-ophthalmology and a leader in graduate medical education in ophthalmology.

Volpe has earned numerous awards, including the Straatsma Award for Excellence in Resident Education from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology.

He has authored more than 100 research papers, reviews, editorials and book chapters. Currently he edits or reviews 10 journals and is the co-editor of the textbook, “Neuro-ophthalmology: Diagnosis and Management.”
