CHICAGO --- As obesity rates soar beyond 25% in almost 30 American states, the Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services are in the process of issuing new dietary guidelines for the nation. Linda Van Horn, professor of preventive medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, is chairman of the committee charged with advising the governmental bodies on revamping the guidelines, which is done every five years. In this audio commentary, Van Horn explains some of her committee's findings and why they are important to the future of public health in the United States.
