Guest artists, like Meg Allison and Joshua Steven, will perform during the noon Tuesday and Thursday "Lunch on the Lake" outdoor concert series that begins June 29 and runs through Aug. 5, on the east lawn of Norris University Center.

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Free performances by guest artists from the Midwest and as far away as Tennessee and California will be featured during Norris University Center's annual "Lunch on the Lake" outdoor concert series. Starting June 29 and running through Aug. 5, the series features music from pop and rock to jazz and country.

Held on Northwestern University's Evanston campus, the semiweekly hourlong programs take place Tuesday and Thursday, at noon, on Norris Center's east lawn. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved indoors to "1999," a food court on the ground floor of Norris Center, 1999 Campus Drive.

Open to the public, the annual lakefront concert series is presented by the University's Summer Session and Center for Student Involvement. Music lovers not only can relax to the music of young artists, they also have the option of purchasing a barbecued lunch prepared outdoors, weather permitting, by chefs from nuCuisine, the University's food service, and sponsored by Coca-Cola. Alternatively, they can bring their own mid-day meal from home.

In the past, the summer concerts have lured a mix of Evanston community members, families with young children, and Northwestern faculty, staff and students.

"Our summer concerts take advantage of Northwestern's beautiful lakefront location," said James McHaley, marketing manager of Norris University Center. "The outdoor tables and chairs are full at every concert and we provide blanket rentals for free."

"Lunch on the Lake" 2010 concert dates and performers include: June 29, country/pop/rock acoustic guitarist Jackson Rohm; July 1, twin brothers Erik and Joe Duemig of The Window Theatre, a keyboard and guitar duo; July 6, Waiting to Run, an acoustic guitar duo; July 8, pop country vocalist and guitarist Andrew Salgado and his band; July 13, Nashville singer, songwriter and guitarist Amy Nicole Lewis; July 15, pop singer and guitarist David Campbell; July 20, vocalist Meg Allison and Joshua Stevens of the country duo Troubled Annie; July 22, rock/funk/soul artist MER (Edmer Abante); July 27, Los-Angeles based national touring band ZIV, led by Ziv Gottlieb; July 29, vocalist and keyboardist Katie Todd; Aug. 3, pop/rock/indie artist Jacob Vanags; and Aug. 5, jazz pianist Monika Herzig.

The "Lunch on the Lake" outdoor menu, which changes weekly, will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from June 29 through Aug. 5. Priced at $6.50, with a choice of an entrée and two sides, it features barbecue favorites, a half-pound burger and corn on the cob, and includes watermelon and cookies for dessert. A second entree is an additional $3.50.

"We will have a Coke sampling and some giveaways at the first ‘Lunch on the Lake' June 29," said Pamela Yee, district marketing director for nuCuisine. "Also during all ‘Lunch on the Lake' days, guests can enter to win a grand prize, which will be raffled off at the last ‘Lunch on the Lake' Aug. 5."

Other events offered at Norris this summer are mini courses from July 12 through Aug. 22 in watercolor, ceramics, drawing, cake decorating, photography, Latin dance, German, tai chi, pilates, guitar, fiction writing, career development, everyday economics and South Asian cuisine. Free outdoor films will be screened at 9 p.m. from June 30 through Aug. 4 on the east lawn or indoors at Norris Center's McCormick Auditorium, in the event of rain. A used bike sale will be held on the Norris east lawn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 15.
