EVANSTON, Ill. --- Free performances by guest artists from the Midwest and as far away as Tennessee and California will be featured during Norris University Center's annual "Lunch on the Lake" outdoor concert series. Starting June 29 and running through Aug. 5, the series features music from pop and rock to jazz and country.
Held on Northwestern University's Evanston campus, the semiweekly hourlong programs take place Tuesday and Thursday, at noon, on Norris Center's east lawn. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved indoors to "1999," a food court on the ground floor of Norris Center, 1999 Campus Drive.
Open to the public, the annual lakefront concert series is presented by the University's Summer Session and Center for Student Involvement. Music lovers not only can relax to the music of young artists, they also have the option of purchasing a barbecued lunch prepared outdoors, weather permitting, by chefs from nuCuisine, the University's food service, and sponsored by Coca-Cola. Alternatively, they can bring their own mid-day meal from home.
In the past, the summer concerts have lured a mix of Evanston community members, families with young children, and Northwestern faculty, staff and students.
"Our summer concerts take advantage of Northwestern's beautiful lakefront location," said James McHaley, marketing manager of Norris University Center. "The outdoor tables and chairs are full at every concert and we provide blanket rentals for free."
