Pfander Named Owen L. Coon Chair in Law


The law professor published a book on the Supreme Court in 2009

CHICAGO, Ill. --- James E. Pfander, professor of law in the Northwestern University School of Law, has been named the Owen L. Coon Chair in Law.

Pfander is the author of "One Supreme Court: Supremacy, Inferiority, and the Judicial Power of the United States" published in 2009. He has focused his teaching and research on federal jurisdiction and procedure. Much of his recent work deals with the history and structure of Article III of the Constitution and the role of the Supreme Court of the United States in relation to inferior courts and tribunals.

He currently serves as reporter/consultant to the Federal-State Jurisdiction Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States. He is a member of American Law Institute and has served as chair of both the federal courts and civil procedure sections of the Association of American Law Schools.
