EVANSTON, Ill. --- Book lovers, record collectors and seekers of bargains rejoice! The popular Northwestern University Library Book Sale returns this year from May 11 to 13 to the Ver Steeg Lounge of the Main Library at 1970 Campus Drive.
The Evanston campus book sale will open to members of the Northwestern University community with a valid WildCard or alumni ID from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 11. The general public can join the search for treasures and bargains from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 12.
Thursday, May 13, is "Buck a Bag Day," when from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., everyone is invited to fill up a bag of sale items for $1 or a box for $2.
A much-anticipated event, the annual University Library book sale traditionally appeals to book professionals. In years past, eager book collectors have lined up hours in advance of the sale so they can take advantage of its best selections.
Thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and periodicals go on sale this year, including a complete run of Wired magazine and an eight-volume set of Marxism, Communism and Western Society: A Comparative Encyclopedia. The encyclopedia set, which online is priced at $150, will be tagged at $25 at Northwestern.
More than 100 record albums, including recordings by jazz greats Benny Goodman, Eddie Condon and Fats Waller, also will be on sale.
Hardcover books initially will be priced at $3 each; quality paperbacks at $2; and mass-market paperbacks at 50 cents each.
