Derk Joester Named Morris E. Fine Junior Professor

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Derk Joester, assistant professor of materials science and engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern, has been named the Morris E. Fine Junior Professor in Materials and Manufacturing.

Joester's research focuses on biological and bio-inspired minerals synthesis and processing. He is the director of the Biomaterials Laboratory in the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, which houses equipment used for maintenance, processing and characterization of biological materials and biomaterials.

Joester is the co-author of several publications and the recipient of numerous awards and honors including a Minerva Fellowship in 2005 and a full scholarship to the 2006 Global Enterprise for Micro-Mechanics and Molecular Medicine summer school. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Materials Research Society.
