Reaching Out to Haiti

Latin American and Caribbean Studies lists organizations offering help

By Pat Vaughan Tremmel

Northwestern's Program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies has compiled a list of organizations providing emergency relief and long-term redevelopment aid to Haiti.  Even before the earthquake, Haiti was the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with urgent needs for food, housing, health care, education, urban infrastructure and employment. Now, tens and perhaps hundreds of thousands of people are dead, many more are injured and homeless, Port au Prince is in ruins, and emergency supplies are hopelessly inadequate.
