Northwestern Sponsors Safety Awareness Week Oct. 6-10


Northwestern will host events this week to promote safety practices on campus in conjunction with Safety Awareness Week 2008.

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University will host events this week, Oct. 6-10, to promote safety practices on campus in conjunction with Safety Awareness Week 2008.

The goal of the week is to increase awareness regarding safety resources and gain experience in following emergency protocols. Activities for students include University Police presentations at residences, distribution of safety literature in various dining halls and emails to all residential students advising them of fire drill procedures.

In addition all faculty, staff and students are invited to dispose of their unused prescriptions at the Health Service Pharmacy at 633 Emerson St., Evanston. Disposing old medication guards against theft, accidental injury and environmental contamination of the water system. Disposal hours will be 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Disposal hours on Tuesday will be 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-6 p.m.

Safety Awareness Week 2008 is sponsored by University Residential Life, Risk Management, University Police, Health Promotions and Wellness, University Housing, Residence Hall Association, Residential College Board, Associated Student Government and REI.
