Flu Shots Available at Health, Benefits Fairs

Faculty, staff and retirees will be able to obtain flu shots during both campus fairs.

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The 14th Annual Northwestern University Health and Benefits Fair will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, on the Evanston campus in the Louis Room and surrounding area at Norris University Center. The Evanston campus event is free and open to the public.

The Chicago Campus Health and Benefits Fair from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14,
will take place in the Ryan Family Atrium of the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center. The Chicago campus event is not open to the public.

Only Northwestern faculty, staff and retirees will be able to obtain flu shots during both campus fairs that will be administered by representatives of NorthShore University Health Systems Omega for a $32 charge. Payments must be made on site with a personal check or cash. Omega asks that participants bring the exact amount of cash. Omega also requests that those who are either pregnant or who have immunocompromised health conditions provide a letter from their doctors authorizing them to have the shots.

Both fairs feature the latest in personal health and well-being, physical fitness, financial planning and health information. Participants are provided opportunities to win prizes and receive special offers, valuable tools and other pertinent information useful in helping to improve overall health and well-being.

Evanston campus participants will receive a raffle ticket when they arrive or download a copy of the raffle ticket and enter personal contact information prior to the event from the Web site at http://www.fitrec.northwestern.edu. Chicago campus participants are encouraged to bring a supply of personal business cards to enter the raffle for prizes.

Evanston campus (Oct. 15) events:

• Flu shots will be available on the Evanston campus between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Armadillo Room (Room 208) on the second floor of Norris University Center.

The following special offers will be available from various professional organizations and vendor tables:

• Learn about benefit plan changes and premium rates for 2009. Open Enrollment begins Oct. 27 and ends at 5 p.m. Nov. 14.

• Speak with healthcare representatives who can further outline their benefit packages, answer questions and highlight special options.

• Receive invaluable information from representatives of more than 50 different professional groups and services.

• Receive free health and fitness screenings, including blood pressure, body composition, hearing, chiropratic, injury, and more.

• Attend one of several free yoga and pilates classes.

• Learn how to maximize results with the right exercise program from Northwestern's Personal Training Staff.

• Speak with healthcare and investment plan representatives.

• Enjoy free food and recipes provided by nuCuisine.

• Special discounts and deals for Fitness and Recreation membership, programs and services.

The Evanston campus event is sponsored by Northwestern Athletics and Recreation, the Benefits Division, Norris University Center and nuCuisine.

Chicago campus (Oct. 14) events:

• Flu shots will be available from noon to 1:30 p.m. for a $32 charge (by cash or personal check only) in the Gray Seminar Room of the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center, 303 E. Superior St.

• More than 20 groups, including representatives from health and welfare vendors and Northwestern community clinics and centers, will be on hand from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 to share the latest on personal health and well-being, physical fitness, financial planning and health information.

• Robert F. Kushner, M.D., professor of medicine and clinical director for the Northwestern Comprehensive Center on Obesity (NCCO) and director for the Center for Lifestyle Medicine, will speak from 3 to 4 p.m. on "Enhancing Personal Health and Wellness" in the Baldwin Auditorium of the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center.
