Northwestern University Library Book Sale Set for April

By Wendy Leopold
EVANSTON, Ill. --- More than 10,000 books, CDs, DVDs and periodicals will be available for purchase by the general public April 4, April 5 and April 7 when Northwestern University Library opens up its Northwestern University Library Book Sale to one and all.

Northwestern community members -- students, faculty, staff, and alumni with a valid WildCARD or alumni ID -- are invited to preview the book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 3.

The popular annual event will take place in Ver Steeg Lounge of University Library, 1970 Campus Drive, Evanston. Hours are Friday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to noon; and Monday, April 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Hardcover books will cost $3 each; quality paperbacks will cost $2; and mass market paperbacks will sell for 50 cents each. On Monday -- the final day of the book sale --merchandise will be sold for one dollar a bag.

While the books on sale will cover virtually every topic, the sale will offer a particularly large collection of books in European and American history, fiction, transportation, psychology, military science and political science. It also includes overstock items from Northwestern University Press.

A much-anticipated event for local book lovers, the University Library Book Sale traditionally attracts collectors who sometimes line up hours in advance to take advantage of the best selection. This year's library sale is the first to include a Saturday morning.

"We wanted to make the event more accessible to the general public," says book sale coordinator Betsy Allen. "Including Saturday hours accommodates people who wouldn't have time to come during the regular work week."
