Northwestern to Host Winter and Spring 2008 Dance Events

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University will be the site of a stellar lineup of dance concerts during the winter and spring 2008 performance season. The programs will feature Northwestern students and award-winning faculty and professional choreographers.

All of the following events, including a special Dec. 7 benefit, will take place in venues on the University's Evanston campus, including the Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, 10 Arts Circle Drive; Josephine Louis Theater, 20 Arts Circle Drive; or the Ethel M. Barber Theater, 30 Arts Circle Drive, as noted below. All of the events are open to the public.

In December, Northwestern's Mainstage theatre will present three performances of Jump Rhythm Jazz Project (JRJP), an Emmy Award-winning, Chicago-based touring company that celebrates the rhythmic core of all jazz performance in high-energy bursts of swinging body rhythms. The group's artistic director is Billy Siegenfeld, a member of the University's dance faculty. JRJP performances will take place at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6; 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7; and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Josephine Louis Theater. Single concert tickets are $25 for the general public; $22 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for students and children.

A 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, JRJP fundraising event, "Swingtime in Winter," will follow the 8 p.m. Louis Hall performance. The post-concert benefit will take place in the lobby of the adjacent Barber Theater. Proceeds will fund the ensemble's operating costs and community outreach. Admission is $45 at the door; $70 special ticket that includes performance, benefit and JRJP gift; or $100 premiere ticket that includes preferred seating at the show, benefit ticket, name recognition in the program and a special JRJP gift. During Winter 2008, the Mainstage production of DanceWorks 2008, a Dance Program faculty-choreographed showcase performed by Northwestern students. Featuring a variety of dance styles, including jazz, contemporary, modern, tap and hip-hop, DanceWorks 2008 will be held at the Louis Theater. Performance times are 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27; 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28; 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29; 8 p.m. Saturday, March 1; 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2; 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6; 8 p.m. Friday, March 7; 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9. Tickets are $20 for the general public; $18 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for full-time students.

Northwestern's Dance Program will host the 2008 Senior Dance Major Concert, featuring original choreography by graduating senior dance majors. A guest artist work performed by the seniors will also be showcased. Northwestern dance majors will perform these new works. Performances will take place from May 22 through May 25 in the Ballroom Studio Theatre of the Marshall Dance Center. General admission is $5. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door prior to each dance concert.
