Robert Linsenmeier Receives Outstanding Educator Award
EVANSTON, Ill. --- Robert A. Linsenmeier, professor of biomedical engineering and of neurobiology and physiology at the Northwestern University Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has received the 2007 Theo C. Pilkington Outstanding Educator Award from the Biomedical Engineering Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).
The annual award, which recognizes the significant contributions of biomedical engineer Theo C. Pilkington to the advancement of biomedical engineering education, is conferred by the division for significant contributions not only to ASEE but also to the biomedical engineering and education profession as evidenced by the development of successful graduate level programs, curricula, textbooks and professional papers and by membership and activity in the Biomedical Engineering Division of ASEE and other biomedical engineering organizations.
Linsenmeier's research focuses on the microenvironment in which the neurons of the retina work, with an emphasis on understanding the physiology of oxygen transport and energy metabolism in the retina.
He is co-director of the newly established Northwestern Center for Engineering Education Research, which brings together scholars from throughout Northwestern to conduct research on how to best educate engineering students as adaptive experts.
Linsenmeier also serves as associate director of the VaNTH Engineering Research Center in Bioengineering Educational Technologies, a collaborative NSF-funded center involving Northwestern, Vanderbilt University, the University of Texas at Austin and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.
