Northwestern parents can register now for child care services in Evanston at the McGaw YMCA Children's Center and in Chicago at the KinderCare Learning Center. Program offerings include full- and part-day preschool, full-day infant to 5-year-old care, an after-school program and summer day camp programs for preschool to fifth grade.
New Northwestern families will be given priority fall enrollment during the registration period starting in February. Enrollment is currently being accepted for a limited number of immediate openings in the full-day, after-school and summer programs.
Other local child care options
For faculty and staff unable to enroll at McGaw or KinderCare, the Work Life, Child & Family Resources Office provides information about other child care options and provider referral services in the Evanston and Chicago areas.
Benefits-eligible faculty and staff can take advantage of a resource and referral program that offers consultation services and profiles about local child care centers, licensed family child care homes and nanny agencies. For details, call Action for Children at (312) 823-1275.
In addition, Northwestern community members can access center-based backup care at 10 designated KinderCare Learning Centers throughout Chicago for up to 20 days per year. Backup care is also available on an as-available-basis at the McGaw YMCA Children's Center. Backup care is intended for situations when regular arrangements are disrupted, as a supplement, not a replacement, for primary care.
