EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University, Evanston Township High School and the Evanston Community Foundation are seeking nominations for volunteers to be recognized as Outstanding Volunteers of the Year.
This is the third year that the University, ETHS and ECF have joined forces to celebrate the extraordinary work volunteers do every day in the community.
Organizations and individuals are invited to nominate ETHS and Northwestern students, as well as Evanston community members, who have gone above and beyond in contributing to the community or who have remarkable service stories to share. Nominations are due no later than Feb. 9.
The collaboration of these three community institutions began in early 2005. “It's been a great opportunity to work together to recognize the often unsung work that community residents, including Northwestern and ETHS students, do to make our community a better and more caring place,” commented Marybeth Schroeder, director of community programs at the Evanston Community Foundation.
“The stories of the volunteers and their work have been really moving,” adds Barbara Zimmer, community service coordinator, ETHS. “This recognition rewards their service and inspires others.”
The nomination form can be downloaded or submitted at www.norris.northwestern.edu/vr.php. Nominations can also be mailed to Natalie Furlett, Center for Student Involvement, Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston, Ill. 60208 or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fifteen people will be selected for their community service and will be honored at a Volunteer Recognition reception Thursday, April 19, at the Norris University Center on the Evanston campus.
“We're delighted to once again be celebrating the important work of volunteers in our community,” says Lucile Krasnow, special assistant for community relations, Northwestern University.
