Northwestern Helps YMCA Children's Center Earn National Accreditation

With the help of Northwestern, the McGaw YMCA Children’s Center has earned accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The University donated $13,500 to the children’s center to help offset costs related to the accreditation, including training and equipment.

Northwestern and the children’s center have a relationship wherein priority enrollment is provided to the children of faculty, staff and students. Approximately 80 University-affiliated children are enrolled in one of the center’s several programs.

According to NAEYC, an accredited early childhood program has planned age- and development-appropriate learning activities, trained teachers and administrators, respect for cultural diversity and ongoing systemic evaluation, among other qualities.
