EVANSTON, Ill. --- Allen V. Lentino, senior associate director of admission and financial aid at Northwestern University, has received the Government Relations Award from the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
The award is presented to a NACAC member who has made outstanding efforts in support of policy initiatives that promote equal access to higher education, encourage student achievement and promote counselor excellence, and further the government relations priorities of NACAC members. In addition, Allen was elected to a two-year term on its board of directors.
Allen has attended 10 NACAC Legislative Conferences in Washington since 1993. He meets with members of the Illinois congressional delegation in the U.S. House and Senate, as well as training new attendees on how to make an effective visit to Capitol Hill. Allen has also served as a member of NACAC's national Government Relations Committee from 1997-99 and helped to plan the Legislative Conference during those years, setting legislative priorities. He has been a member of the Illinois ACAC Government Relations Committee since 1997, having served two terms as chair of that group: 1999-2002 and 2005-06.
Allen served as President of Illinois ACAC in 1994-95, with a three year term on the executive board (1993-96). At Northwestern, he is director of the Alumni Admission Council (whose members volunteer at local college fairs and interview applicants) and senior admissions evaluator for the School of Communication. He also offers his long-time expertise on Chicago-area high schools and is a sought-after invited speaker at schools across the region on admission and financial aid topics.
