Robert Barker, Library Assistant, Dies at 69

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Robert Hewitt Barker, 69, retired departmental assistant in the Catalog Department at the Northwestern University Library, died June 20 at his home in Tucson, Ariz. 

He joined the University Library in 1980 and was honored in 2000 for his 20 years of service to the University.

Mr. Barker was raised in Winnetka and attended New Trier High School. He graduated from Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., in 1954. He received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Yale University in 1958 and was a member of Berkeley College and Chi Psi fraternity. He received a graduate degree in library science from Emporia State University in Kansas, where he served as a professor of English.

He is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth B. Hall of Evanston and Antoinette B. Newman of London.
