Feinberg Medical School Grads Get Match Day ResultsMarch 14, 2006
CHICAGO --- The Feinberg School of Medicine class of 2006 learned on March 16 where they will be doing their residency training.
Match Day 2006 for 165 graduating medical students of the Feinberg School at Northwestern University was held at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel.
Twenty-four of these students had already received their match results through “early match” or “military matches.”
The specialties of ophthalmology, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, urology and neurology have a match that takes place in January so that if a student is not matched for a particular program -- for example, in neurosurgery -- there is still time to try to match in another area in March.
The Army, Navy and Air Force operate scholarship programs that fund virtually all of a student’s four-year M.D. degree program in exchange for a commitment to serve an equal number of years in that armed service. The services operate residency programs in most specialties and try to make their matches by early December.
Match Day is held annually to announce the results of the National Residents Matching Program. This computer-based program matches graduating medical students with residency programs throughout the country.
