City Sewer Work to Begin in Summer

The City of Evanston will begin sewer work this summer along streets adjacent to University property.

The project is scheduled to begin immediately after commencement and continue for 18 months.

Areas involved are Orrington, from Emerson to Noyes; Foster, from Sheridan to Sherman; Simpson, from Orrington to Sherman; and Sherman, from Hamlin to Simpson.

The largest impact on the campus will be at the corner of Emerson and Orrington, Foster, and the east side of Sheridan at Foster. The east side of Sheridan at Foster will be excavated the width of the sidewalk, necessitating pedestrian rerouting around the site.

Work on Foster Street will be phased so that the north drive of Foster-Walker will have only one entrance/exit open at any time. Emerson Street will have access to the Foster-Walker loading dock and parking lot by making Emerson Street two-way traffic and phasing the work.

The City of Evanston is aware of student move-in dates next fall and is scheduling to keep those streets (Emerson and Foster) accessible on those days.

A more detailed schedule will be released by the City of Evanston, and that information and updates will be posted on the Facilities Management website: http://www.northwestern.edu.

For questions or concerns about this project, visit the website or contact Facilities Management at 1-5201.
