Health and Benefits Fair Is Oct. 11

October 4, 2005

Free yoga and Pilates workouts, blood pressure screenings, spinal/postural analyses, and fitness and investment plan advice will be available during the 11th Annual Health and Benefits Fair hosted by Northwestern University on Oct. 11.

The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in and adjacent to the Louis Room, on the second floor of Norris University Center. The free event is open to staff, faculty, students, alumni and the general public.

The annual fair launches the University’s Open Enrollment period  (Oct. 24 through Nov. 18) and increases awareness of the various health and benefit plan options available to employees for 2006.

The fair will offer a wide variety of interactive and topical exhibits, health and fitness screenings and yoga, Pilates and exercise demonstrations for all age levels.

Representatives from more than 50 of the health and benefit industry’s leading organizations will be available to answer questions about personal health and well being, physical fitness and financial and future planning.

Health and fitness screenings may also include diabetes, body composition, cancer, stress, nutrition, health risk, spinal/postural analysis, vision and dental.

Healthy food samples at the fair will be provided by nuCuisine, the campus dining services.

The goal of the annual event is to increase awareness of personal health, fitness and wellness; healthcare benefits, investment and retirement plan options; and provide a wide variety of workshops, information, educational materials, corresponding professional services, resources and referrals to the University community, alumni and the public.

It also helps to motivate those who attend the fair to make positive health behavior changes and establish healthy lifestyle habits.

Last year, nearly 1,000 visitors from on and off campus attended the fall event.

A grand raffle drawing will be held at the conclusion of the fair. In order to qualify for the raffle prizes, individuals who attend the event must hand in a card with a minimum of 15 initials documented by exhibitors.

Raffle prizes include sports/athletic tickets, an annual Northwestern parking permit, a one-year membership to the University’s Henry Crown Sports Pavilion/Norris Aquatics Center/Combe Tennis Center, gift certificates, bike helmets, a gift basket, umbrella, travel bag, tote bags, sweatshirts, t-shirts, coffee mugs and golf balls. Winners will be notified within 24-hours.

The fair is sponsored by Athletics and Recreation, the Benefits Division of the Department of Human Resources, Norris University Center, and nuCuisine.
