Chicago Child Care Program Continues to GrowJune 1, 2005
Faculty, staff and students are taking advantage of the new Chicago campus child care program, according to University officials.
Since Northwestern and KinderCare Learning Centers partnered to bring KinderCare@Work to the campus in January, enrollment has grown from 38 children to 87 and has reached 78 percent of capacity. Approximately 30 Northwestern families have been added to the infant waiting list in anticipation of their children’s births.
At the current rate, it is expected that the center will be completely full by fall.
In the short time it has been open, the center has provided a vital option for newer parents, said Katie Krauch, manager of work/life, child and family resources. "We needed to address the scarcity of care near campus for the infant to two-year-old age groups, and KinderCare@Work helped us meet our need," she said.
The center is located two blocks south of Abbott Hall at 446 E. Ontario St.
