We use a combination of experimental and computer modeling approaches to study pyramidal neuron function in the hippocampus. We have published a number of papers using computer modeling and have a number of ongoing projects in this area. The strategy behind our approach is to use the models as a means of quantitatively synthesizing the large body of available data regarding pyramidal cell structure and function. The models are then used to make experimentally testable predictions that motivate many of the experiments we do in the lab. Our work with computer simulations is done in collaboration with Bill Kath, of Northwestern's Engineering Science and Applied Mathematics department. Code for our published computer models is available at the Spruston/Kath lab neural modeling web site. |
