APIDA Book of the Quarter

Are you interested in talking about Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) books and issues?  Join Asian American Studies Program Professors Michelle Huang and Doug Ishii and MSA Assistant Director Christine Munteanu for a casual book club discussion on important works of APIDA literature. 

Contact Christine at cmunteanu@northwestern.edu to sign up and reserve your book, and then come pick up your copy at the Multicultural Center at 1936 Sheridan Road. Participation is limited to the first 20 respondents!

Fall 2017

For fall quarter, we'll be reading and discussing The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri.  Part coming-of-age novel, part intergenerational immigration story, The Namesake spans thirty years to follow Gogol Ganguli​ as he navigates college, his parents’ expectations, and what it means to be Bengali American in the United States.

Winter 2018

For winter quarter, we'll be reading and discussing The Best We Could Do by Thi Bui.  Melding oral history, life writing, and comics, The Best We Could Do is a monumental graphic memoir detailing Vietnamese American author Thi Bui and her family's experience as refugees displaced by the Vietnam War.
