Ten Year Anniversary
In 2000, the first Safe Space Ally Workshop was offered by the LGBT Support Network (currently known as the LGBTQA Campus Advisory Network). Later this group collaborated with students to advocate for an LGBT Resource Center and a staff position. As a result of these efforts and with the support of Student Affairs administration, the LGBT Resource Center opened its doors on May 19, 2004 with two co-coordinators who worked six hours a week. In 2006, a new position was created in the Center for Student Involvement, the Coordinator for the LGBT Resource Center and Social Justice Organizations. The part-time Coordinator position became a full-time Director position in July 2012 and was reorganized to operate under the umbrella of Multicultural Student Affairs. I am excited to share that we anticipate creating a larger LGBT Resource Center within the Norris Center during the summer of 2014. This enhancement will give us the opportunity to better serve students and to cement ourselves as an integral part of the Northwestern University community.
Please join us for a celebratory reception on May 19, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. The 10-Year Anniversary Reception will be held at the LGBT Resource Center located in the Norris Center at Northwestern University.
