The Way to Lead

Student leadership is an integral aspect of the multicultural community at Northwestern University. Multicultural Student Affairs provides various resources for those seeking leadership engagement and referrals to opportunities that help develop leadership skills and interests.

There are several resources across campus that help students create, understand, and learn from their student leadership experience:

• Join an MSA recognized student group
• Join Associated Student Government
• Get involved with activities through the Center for Student Involvement
• Leadership Coaching
• Volunteer and participate in community service
• Learn about civic engagement
• Enroll in a leadership course (e.g. Freshman Emerging Leaders Program and Undergraduate Leadership Program)

Opportunities for Leadership Experience

Look for opportunities that align with your academic and career interests. Valuable knowledge, practice and skills can be acquired, developed and honed in many ways. Your leadership experiences potentially reflect your acquired skills for potential employers, other students, faculty, advisors, administrators, etc. Leadership experiences vary and help develop various aspects of leadership. Be sure to select leadership opportunities that support your endeavors to develop the leadership skills and assets most interesting and pertinent to you .
