There are 195 countries, and the founders of a student-run study abroad blog hope to cover them all — one day.
Launched in February 2009, the195.com started as a solution for students to keep in touch while traveling abroad. Now more than 40 students visiting 30 countries have documented their experiences via video, photography and words on the award-winning site. It won Best Independent Online Student Publication in the regional Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards.
Founders Tracy Fuad and Shanika Gunaratna, both seniors, and Adam Sege, a junior, met as counselors for Project Wildcat, where they discovered a common interest in global reporting. With funding from Northwestern Hillel and the Roberta Buffet Center for International and Comparative Studies, they built the195.com. Now the founders plan to expand the site — they've created a network at Brandeis University — and encourage more Northwestern students to share their experiences.
