Morgan Weed

Stage Star

Even before graduation, theater major Morgan Weed had made her professional debut in the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire’s winter production of Grease.

A senior from Pennington, N.J., Weed also played Dorothy in Northwestern’s acclaimed American Music Theatre Project’s premier production of WAS, as well as roles in the AMTP productions of The Boys Are Coming Home and In the Bubble.

Weed says her portrayal of the witch in the 2007 Dolphin Show Into the Woods remains one of her favorites.

“It challenged me as an actress to free myself of my inhibitions in order to really do justice to the play and the production,” Weed says. “It is a role that I will always treasure, and it confirmed for me that performing is what I want to do with my life.”

Music theater program director Dominic Missimi says Weed is “exceptional” and driven in the best sense of the word, extraordinarily intelligent and creatively self-sufficient.”

Weed, a student in the Music Theatre Certificate Program, is also an English major with a concentration in Renaissance literature.

“I think that studying literature in addition to theater has enriched me as an actress,” says Weed, who plans to pursue a career in the performing arts. “I feel the most alive, most awake, when I’m on stage — a part of an ensemble.”
