Eric Chun is well aware of Northwestern's history under coach Pat Goss (WCAS93). In Goss' 13 seasons, Northwestern has made 10 NCAA tournament appearances, and four former Wildcats have earned PGA Tour cards. If all goes well, that number will soon be five.
A sophomore from Ansung City, South Korea, Chun is coming off one of the best rookie campaigns in program history. The first freshman in 23 years to win the individual Big Ten championship, Chun was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2009.
Then in October Chun outdid himself. As one of the top-ranked golfers in Korea, Chun was invited to participate in the inaugural Asian Amateur Championship. At the tournament in Shenzen, China, Chun placed second in the field of 116. While a first-place finish would have qualified Chun for the Masters, the runner-up earned an invitation to participate in the International Final Qualifying for the 2010 British Open.
"Just to have an opportunity like that, where I can play against the best players in the world, is really exciting," Chun said. "When I play in professional events, I can see where I stand and what I need to improve. It's a learning experience more than anything."
