Regional Clubs

More than 50 alumni turned out in January to learn the finer points of business and social etiquette at the Young Professional Series: Young Alumni Etiquette Banquet, sponsored by the Northwestern Alumni Association and the NU Club of Chicago Young Alumni, at the Kellogg School of Management conference center on the Chicago campus. The event featured author and certified image professional Jill Bremer's "Serving Up Success" social and business etiquette presentation. As a preview to the 2008 Dance Marathon, set for March 7–9, club members attended a benefit at the Adler Planetarium in February to raise funds for Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Coming up, club members can register for the NAA's next Chicago Theatre event, The Drowsy Chaperone with Mark Ledbetter (Mu00), at the Cadillac Palace Theatre April 10.

Members of the NU Club of Greater New York are buzzing about the upcoming "A Night with Northwestern in New York" performance March 31 at Manhattan's Hudson Theatre. Some of Northwestern's most celebrated alumni will take the stage alongside Broadway's rising talent in Expect the Unexpected, directed by Jen Bender (C01), resident director of Broadway's The Lion King and assistant director of Avenue Q. Kenneth Ferrone (C04) and Erica Lynn Schwartz (C03) will produce the show. Also on the club calendar is the May 9 performance of Camelot by the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center.

In January the club hosted Second Acts: How to Navigate Your Life/Work Options at the McGraw-Hill Building. The career event featured author and career consultant Marilyn Moats Kennedy (J65, GJ66). In December members of the Medill Club of New York City gained some insights into reporting for and marketing to Baby Boomers during a panel discussion, which included Susan Avery (GJ90), senior editor of Grandparents.com. at the Manhattan Theatre Club. Also, the team of Daniel Burseth (McC07) and Cameron Tajvar (SESP07) emerged victorious when club members competed in the Big Ten Beer Pong Tournament at the Prey Bar and Lounge in December. The event raised $1,000 for Children of the City, a community outreach organization that helps underprivileged children in southwest Brooklyn.

In January members of the NU Club of Philadelphia enjoyed a tour of mosaic artist Jonathan Mandell's (WCAS84) studio in Bala Cynwyd. They also visited Friends' Central School in Wynnewood to interview prospective Northwestern students. On May 3 club members will gather for an Italian dinner at Abbracio Restaurant and then attend Curio Theatre's production of What the Butler Saw, directed by Liam Castellan (C04). The club's spring calendar also includes a trip to see the Chicago Cubs play the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park and a poker tournament to benefit the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
