In January, LANU (Latino Alumni of Northwestern University) and the Office of Hispanic and Latino Student Affairs co-sponsored the Latino Networking Gala on the Evanston campus. The club’s new officers are Ronnie Rios (WCAS04) and Soledad McGrath (WCAS98), co-presidents; Jaime Flores (WCAS06), vice president; Janice Mejia (McC04), treasurer; Ana Valenzuela (WCAS06), secretary; and David Alonzo (WCAS96), communication chair.
More than 100 alumni, students and faculty took part in the NUBAA (Northwestern University Black Alumni Association) 5K run/walk, co-sponsored by the student organization For Members Only, Oct. 7, 2006, on the Evanston campus lakefront. The event raised more than $10,000 for the club’s undergraduate African American scholarship fund. The club’s next 5K event is set for May 5.
The NUEA-East (Northwestern University Entertainment Alliance) hosted a panel discussion, “Long Term Career Issues and Strategies for Performers,” Nov. 19, 2006, in New York City. Led by NUEA board member Will Trice (GC05), the panel included actor Tony Roberts (C61), actress Rita Harvey (GMu92), agent Michael Kirsten (C92) and casting director Jamibeth Margolis and covered such topics as balancing an entertainment career with personal life, making the most of downtime, career longevity and transitioning between age brackets.
