Winter 2003 1930s Gerald Doty (Mu31, GMu36) of Missoula, Mont., professor emeritus and former music department chair at the University of Montana, at age 94 teaches 23 violin and viola students in his home. He and his wife, Betsy, traveled to Australia, New Zealand, London and the Baltic Sea the last two years. Irv Kupcinet (WCAS34) of Chicago was honored on his 60th anniversary as a Chicago Sun-Times columnist at a May gala benefiting the Chicago Academy for the Arts. In addition to his long-running “Kup’s Column” in the Sun-Times, he hosted Kup’s Show and was a commentator on WBBM-TV. He received Peabody and Emmy awards. Adah Straus Jaffer (Mu35) of Miami is 89 years old and in good health. She plays French horn in two community bands and still drives. She previously taught instrumental music in Virginia and Ohio and played in the Women’s Army Corps bands from 1943 to 1946. She enjoys her grandchildren and two sons. Joseph W. Daily (WCAS36) and his wife, Louise Engstrom (WCAS38), of Clearwater, Fla., celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last spring. They enjoy their nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They have traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. Alice-Vivian P. Hunter Roedell (WCAS39) of Madison, Wis., a retired kindergarten teacher, recovered at the local Nazareth Rehabilitation House after an illness and is doing well.
