Despite rain, 45 members and friends of the NU Club of Chicago enjoyed the smooth sound of Tony Bennett at Ravinia on Labor Day weekend. In October members attended the Tony Award–winning The Lion King at the Cadillac Palace Theater. In November members prepared food packages at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. They also joined the NU Club of Chicago Young Alumni Committee and the NU Undergraduate Leadership Program for an interactive seminar on civic leadership led by Paul Arntson, a communication studies professor.

Members of the NU Club of Indianapolis in August welcomed local alumni and new students to a dinner at the home of Karla Yale (McC70, KSM74) and Ron Waicukauski (C70). They presented a club scholarship to Medill student Hilary Powell. On the agenda are an Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra concert in February featuring School of Music alumni and plans to welcome Wildcat basketball fans to Indianapolis for the Big Ten postseason tournaments in March, should Northwestern’s men’s or women’s teams qualify.

Following a summer of wine tasting, picnicking and new-student welcoming events, 25 members and friends of the NU Club of Portland participated in the September on-air fundraising drive for Oregon Public Broadcasting. In purple Northwestern T-shirts, the group stood out among the volunteers. In November the club hosted a marketing talk by Kellogg School of Management assistant dean Richard Honack (KSM94).

The NU Club of Washington, D.C., joined the Northwestern Alumni Association and the Medill School of Journalism in presenting a foreign-affairs panel discussion led by University President Henry S. Bienen at the National Press Club in November. Panelists included Jack Doppelt, a Medill associate professor, and alumni journalists Georgie Anne Geyer (J56), Richard Harris (J76), Stan Crock (GJ73), Gigi Barnett (GJ00) and Elisabeth Bumiller (J77).
