1960s
David Kuck (GMcC60, 63) of Urbana,
Ill., is an Intel Fellow and general manager of Kuck & Associates, an
Intel company in Urbana. Kuck founded Kuck & Associates in 1979 and served
as chair of the board from 1993 to 2000. He has also been a faculty member
of the computer science and electrical and computer engineering departments
of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Canh Tuc Le (GMcC60) of Sydney, Australia,
retired in 1993 from transportation network analysis for the New South
Wales Government Roads and Traffic Authority and now enjoys working and
contributing to nonprofit organizations. He and his wife, Bick Ngoe, have
one daughter, Thu (or Tina), and a son-in-law, Tuoc (or Tony).
Richard A. Lerner (WCAS60) of LaJolla,
Calif., president of the Scripps Research Institute, joined the Senomyx
Inc. scientific advisory board. His extensive scientific background will
be put to use in the expansion of the chemistry program at Senomyx.
Vitorino A. Pinto (GMcC60) of Geneva,
Switzerland, is a freelance consultant. He retired in 1983 after serving
as a senior sanitary engineer for World Health Organization programs and
projects in environmental health.
Leslie R. Axelrod (GMcC61, 80) of
Highland Park, Ill., is a full-time faculty member of the Electrical and
Computer Engineering Department at Illinois Institute of Technology after
retiring from Philips Electronics in 1995.
Richard Doege (WCAS61, KGSM63) of
Washington, D.C., is a legislative counsel on Capitol Hill working on
energy, environment and climate change issues. His public service career
began in the U.S. Congress in 1998 after 30 years in the business sector.
Ron Gonder (GJ61) of Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, retired after 31 years as sports director for WMT radio in Cedar
Rapids. He was the radio play-by-play voice of University of Iowa football
and basketball for 28 years and voted Iowa Sportscaster of the Year eight
times, setting a record. He is married to Patricia.
M. Ray Haase (J61) of Wilmette, Ill.,
senior vice president of Trustmark Insurance Co. in Lake Forest, Ill.,
is head of the individual medical division and chief operating officer
for Trustmark's Starmark and MultiBenefits subsidiaries.
Ann Fraser Lorentzen (S61) of Monte
Rio, Calif., was San Francisco-area TV host of People are Talking.
In May 2000 she was named to the Hanna Boys Center's volunteer board of
directors in Sonoma, Calif.
Nancy Moore (G63) of Stevens Point,
Wis., retired after 32 years as a literature professor at the University
of WisconsinStevens Point. The first to teach a women's studies
course at the university after investigating discrimination toward women,
she led the affirmative action office on campus and organized the local
National Organization for Women and the state's Women in Higher Education.
Hugh H. Makens (L64) of Grand Rapids
is an attorney with the law firm of Warner, Norcross & Judd in its Grand
Rapids office. He was one of 29 attorneys of his firm listed in The
Best Lawyers in America 20012002.
Philip A. Nicely (WCAS64) of Indianapolis
is an attorney with the law firm of Bose, McKinney & Evans in Indianapolis.
He was selected by his peers to be listed in The Best Lawyers in America
200102.
David Hill (L65) of Inverness, Ill., chair and CEO of Kimball
Hill Homes, was honored with Sears, Roebuck and Co.'s Distinguished Leader
Award for helping low- and moderate-income families purchase homes.
Ronald S. Mangum (WCAS65, L68) of
Seoul, South Korea, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in the
U.S. Army. He was assigned as commanding general of Special Operations
Command/Korea in Seoul last September.
Harry Trumfio (GSESP65) of Arlington
Heights, Ill., is the director of the alternative certification program
at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. He also serves as undergraduate
and graduate adviser in the School of Education at Benedictine.
James N. Barnes (WCAS66) of Villamblard,
France, is general counsel to the Antarctica Project in Washington, D.C.,
and counsel to the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition. He is also
counselor to Friends of the Earth International and serves as a member
of the review committee of the Central and Eastern European Bankwatch
Network in Prague. He is listed in the 2001 edition of Who's Who in
the World.
Tsu-Wei Chou (GMcC66) of Hockessin,
Del., is the Jerzy L. Nowinski Professor of Mechanical Engineering at
the University of Delaware and was named chair of the Department of Mechanical
Engineering.
Thomas Attig (WCAS67) of Fairfield,
Calif., is a writer. His latest book is The Heart of Grief: Death and
the Search for Lasting Love (Oxford University Press, 2000).
John A. Lack (GJ67) of New York City
was appointed president, CEO and a director of i3 Mobile Inc., a Stamford,
Conn.based wireless media company. He spent 30 years in the communications
and entertainment industries and is known as one of the creators of MTV.
Marcia Moore (J67)
of Mountain Lakes, N.J., a newspaper reporter and columnist, trade magazine
editor and freelance writer, has written for the New York Times, Sail,
Instructor and other publications. She attended the 16th Annual Highlights
Foundation Writers Workshop at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua,
N.Y., last July.
Laurence J. Kline (EB68) of Chicago
became a partner in the law firm of Hoogendoorn, Talbot, Davids, Godfrey
and Milligan of Chicago last November.
Stephen R. Kretschman (McC68) of
Grand Rapids, an attorney with the law firm of Warner, Norcross & Judd
in Grand Rapids, was listed in The Best Lawyers in America 200102.
Teri-Ellen Naccarato Rogers (WCAS68)
of Hinsdale, Ill., was appointed professor of mathematics at the College
of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Ill.
Russell Schneider (WCAS68, D72) of
Gurnee, Ill., a dentist and president of the Warren Township High School
Board of Education, was inducted last October into the Lake County Sports
Hall of Fame. An All-American wrestler for Northwestern, he has been a
volunteer coach for the high school for 30 years.
Augustus Cerillo (G69)
of Norcoe, Calif., was named provost/vice president for academic affairs
last July at Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa.
He had been on the faculty at California State University, Long Beach,
for 33 years as a professor of history and spent several years as an instructor
at Northwestern.
James P. Curry (McC69) of Berkeley,
Calif., was appointed chief marketing officer for Front Porch Internet
services.
Jerry Greenberg (S69)
of Chicago became vice president of communications for the Wilderness
Society last August. He uses public education to convert Americans' love
of their land and wildlife into greater protection for these resources.
Richard McGinnis (McC69)
of Lewisburg, Pa., was promoted to professor of civil and environmental
engineering at Bucknell University in Lewisburg. He is the author of Learning
Cadkey (McGraw-Hill, 1991).
Harriet Welty Rochefort (GJ69)
of Paris authored her second book, French Fried: The Culinary
Capers of an American in Paris (Thomas Dunne Books, St. Martin's Press,
2001). Her first book is French Toast (St. Martin's Press, 1999).
Lynn Upshaw (J69, GJ70) of San Rafael,
Calif., co-authored his second book on brand marketing, The Masterbrand
Mandate (J. Wiley & Sons, 2000). He is a brand strategist and principal
of Upshaw & Associates in Marin County, Calif.
