1940s

Martin Holger Brix (EB40) of Solvang, Calif., retired after 30 years as a stockbroker, mostly with Dean Witter & Co., and five years in the U.S. Army. He and his wife, Pearl, were married for 60 years prior to her death in 2002.

Clifton Dummett (D41, GD42, H76) of Los Angeles, professor emeritus of dentistry at the University of Southern California, received the American Dental Education Association’s presidential citation in 2003. An advocate for affirmative action in dental education, he served as president of the U.S. and international associations for dental research. In August 2003 he received a certificate of appreciation from the state of Tennessee for his vision and dedication to the Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry.

Theodore T. Kane (SESP48, 50) of Bristol, Wis., retired after a 20-year career as principal of Robert Frost Junior High School in Schaumburg, Ill., and teacher at St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, Ill. He was named the June 2003 artist of the month by the Kenosha County (Wis.) Community Library, where his petroglyphs from around the world were displayed.

Frances Cole Westrup (J48) of Terre Haute, Ind., was honored for her 50-year membership on the board of directors of Union Hospital in June 2002. The late Gov. Frank O’Bannon of Indiana presented her the Sagamore Award for outstanding volunteer work. In October 2003 she received the leadership award from Indianapolis tele-vision station WRTV.
