In spring 2003 students in the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science's Engineering Design and Communication class helped redesign Tech Express. The students suggested a new U-shaped design to facilitate self-service food selection, the addition of a second register for checkout and the elimination of stationary booths to promote flexible seating. The renovations were completed in summer 2003.
