Alumni clubs are using their Northwestern connections to aid job seekers.

On Sept. 10 the NU Club of Boston hosts “Networking, the Most Powerful Tool in Your Arsenal,” a panel discussion and job tactics presentation at the Tufts Health Plan building in Waltham, Mass.

Last March more than 100 alumni turned out for a similar networking presentation sponsored by the NU Club of the San Francisco Bay Area. It featured Lonnie Dunlap and Cindy Graham of University Career Services. The event prompted many local alumni to register as contacts on Northwestern CareerNet, the NAA’s online searchable database that connects job seekers with alumni in their fields. The San Francisco club is planning more career-related events.

Making the most of Northwestern alumni connections in the Chicago theater community, the NU Club of Chicago and NUGALA (Northwestern University Gay and Lesbian Alumni) co-sponsored the first in a series of NAA-influenced theater events. Members and guests attended Trojan Women at the Goodman Theatre on May 1. Director Mary Zimmerman (C82, GC85, GC94), a School of Communication professor and Tony Award winner, fielded questions at a dialogue exclusively for Northwestern audience members after the show.

The next NAA Chicago Theater Night is set for Oct. 25 at the Lookingglass Theatre in downtown Chicago. It features The Secret in the Wings, another Mary Zimmerman production.

This fall the NU Club of Indianapolis cheers on the Wildcat football team at the Hilltop Restaurant on the city’s northeast side and continues its “Dining
a la ’Cat” program, in which members gather once a month at various local restaurants. In April the club hosted Bill Cook (WCAS53, H03), the philanthropist whose name is on the William A. and Gayle K. Cook Hall on the Evanston campus. Cook, the founder and president of medical equipment manufacturer Cook Group, spoke to alumni at the Indiana Historical Society about his career and current activities in historic building renovation.

In November the NU Club of Naples hosts new School of Music dean Toni-Marie Montgomery at the Port Royal Club.

Last May President Henry S. Bienen, Leigh Buchanan Bienen, John Evans Professor in Voice Sherrill Milnes and author and film producer Stuart Kaminsky (C72) gave presentations at the NAA’s “A Day with Northwestern in Sarasota” event, co-sponsored with the NU Club of Sarasota/Manatee.
