George Rathmann Professor: Chad Mirkin

In April, Mirkin was named George B. Rathmann Professor of Chemistry, an endowed professorship established by the Amgen and the Rathmann Family Foundations.

The $1.5 million endowment will support "a leading research and teaching scientist who, like George Rathmann, is performing visionary work in chemistry," said Eric Sundquist, dean of the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

Mirkin is director of the Institute for Nanotechnology and Center for Nanofabrication and Molecular Self-Assembly at Northwestern. He recently published his research on dip-pen nanolithography in Science magazine. Mirkin joined Northwestern in 1991 as associate professor and was named Charles E. and Emma H. Morrison Professor of Chemistry in 1997.
