Diamond Pedigree

A look at Luke Farrell’s baseball bloodlines:

Thomas Farrell* Tom Farrell, grandfather — A left-handed pitcher, Tom played professional baseball and made it as high as Double A with the ­Cleveland Indians in the mid-1950s.

 
 

 
 

John Farrell* John Farrell, father — John pitched for the Indians, California Angels and Detroit Tigers during eight seasons in the big leagues. Since then he has worked in the front office and coached in the majors. He won a World Series as pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox in 2007 and again as manager in 2013. He is now in his fourth ­season as Red Sox manager.

 
 

Jeremy Farrell* Jeremy Farrell, brother — Jeremy was drafted out of the University of Virginia by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008. He played more than 100 games in Triple A before retiring from baseball at the All-Star Break in 2015. He is now a hitting coach in the Chicago Cubs minor league system.

 

 

Shane Farrell* Shane Farrell, brother — Shane pitched at Marshall ­University and was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays, but a series of arm injuries cut his career short. He now works in the Cubs’ front office in the amateur scouting department.
