Pastor Lloyd R. Kittlaus is a graduate of Augustana College (A.B. in philosophy and Greek), of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (M.Div.), and of the University of Chicago (Ph.D. in Bible, with a specialization in the gospels). He is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and also serves as the coordinator of Lutheran Campus Ministry of Metropolitan Chicago.

Pastor Kittlaus grew up in Davenport, Iowa, and in St. Mark Lutheran Church there, but has lived and served in Illinois since seminary. He loves to sing hymns, enjoys listening to classical music, and likes to hike, travel, and camp. He and his wife, Janet (who also is staff at ULC), are the parents of two grown children, Mitchell and Jennifer. Both being of German ancestry, Lloyd and Janet are members of the German American Heritage Center in the pastor's hometown. He also is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature.

In ministry, Pastor Kittlaus' special interests include helping people to understand scripture and to view and experience their life, its roles and relationships, as a vocation, a calling from God. On campus, Pastor Kittlaus is a fellow for the Public Affairs Residential College. Further, he is a graduate of the LGBT Support Network's Safe Space Program. And he is the Campus Religious Counselors liaison to the College of Community & Cultural Studies, Foster House, Goodrich House, Lindgren Residential College of Science & Engineering, Sargent Hall, 562 Lincoln, 600 Lincoln, and 610 Lincoln.

Pastor Kittlaus has received several recognitions for his campus ministry service. In 1996, upon his nomination by the Lutheran Student Movement, he was given the Hess-Pearson Award for dedication to student ministry. In 2002, his seminary alma mater named him a distinguished alumnus of the year. And also that year, at the annual conference for ELCA campus ministry staff, he received the James R. Carr Award for Distinguished Service, an award which includes a stipend for international travel and learning.
