Publicity for Safety Week programs.

University Residential Life sponsors an annual Safety Awareness Week each October. Residents are invited to participate in safety awareness week games during meal hours in the dining halls and firesides across campus. All participants will be entered into a drawing for safety related prizes such as emergency preparedness backpacks, emergency radios, and  flashlights. Campus partners for Safety Week include University Police, SafeRide, Risk Management, Health Service, Sodexo, and Health Promotion and Wellness.

2011 Schedule of Events

Safety Games in residential dining locationsWillie the Wildcat and residents participate in a Safety Week program.

Join hall staff members for a game of Safety Jeopardy or the Wheel of Safety at one of the following tabling events in the dining halls.

  • Monday, Oct. 10: Allison, 5-7 pm
  • Tuesday, Oct. 11: Foster Walker, 5-7pm
  • Wednesday, Oct. 12: Elder, 5-7 pm
  • Wednesday, Oct. 12: Willard, 5-7 pm
  • Thursday, Oct. 13: Sargent, 5-7 pm
  • Friday, Oct. 14: 1835 Hinman, 11am -1 pm

Food Safety Awareness Table:Before you reheat those 5-day old leftovers, visit the Food Safety booth at Sargent Hall during lunchtime on Tuesday, October 11th. At the booth, Northwestern's Campus Dietitian will test your nutrition knowledge on food safety and provide you with quick tips on how to prevent eating food that is not safe.

Firesides: Open to all students!

Shots Fired on Campus:NUPD officers will explain how to develop a "survivor mentality" in the event you are faced with a violent situation on campus.  You will learn how to respond in the event of an active shooter situation and the role of NU police in such emergencies.

More Glove, More Love: All About Safer Sex: Join the Sexual Health and Assault Peer Educators (SHAPE) for an interactive workshop about safer sex. All participants will receive a "Safer Sex Six Pack" (condoms, lubricant, & STI prevention info).

  • Thursday, Oct. 13: Allison Residential Community, Main Lounge, 8-9 pm

Fire Safety:  Do you know how to handle a fire extinguisher? Learn how to put out an actual fire with professionals from Northwestern's Risk Management office. Attendance is limited. Register for this workshop at the safety week tables in the dining halls.
