Summer Housing 2017

Thank you for your interest in summer housing at Northwestern University. The number of available rooms for the summer of 2017 will be very limited. For this reason, assignment priority will be given only to Northwestern students registered in a Summer Session class and who have a Net ID.

Application

The summer housing application is now available. Click the link below to submit an application. Only individuals with valid NetIDs and passwords will be able to access the summer housing application. Summer applications received by Friday, May 19, 2017, will be given full consideration. Applications received after that date will be accommodated only if spaces remain. Submission of a summer application does not guarantee anyone an assignment.

Accommodations

All summer housing assignments will be made to single and double occupancy rooms in Jones Residential College at 1820 Sheridan Road, Evanston. Jones is located on the south end of campus and are a short walk from the Foster Street EL stop, Lake Michigan, and downtown Evanston. Restroom facilities will be maintained by building staff; however, residents are responsible for the cleanliness of their individual sleeping rooms. *Note: Jones is not Residential Colleges during the summer term.

Rooms are air-conditioned and include the following furnishings:

  • bed frame and mattress*
  • desk with built in bookshelf and light
  • desk chair
  • floor lamp
  • built in closets
  • storage unit

*Mattresses measure 80 inches long, also known as twin extra-long. A fitted sheet for a regular twin bed will not fit the mattress.  All individual rooms have tile floor. Linens, pillows, blankets, and towels are not provided. Residents must provide their own bed linens and towels. Full laundry facilities are located within each complex, washers and dryer are available at no cost to the student. 

Summer residents will have access to the Internet; however there will be no access to a telephone within their room. Smoking is prohibited within all areas of the Residence Halls, including individual sleeping rooms.

Dates

Summer residents may check-in and pick up keys beginning at 2:00 p.m. on June 18, 2017, at the front desk in Foster-Walker, 1927 Orrington Ave. The front desk will be open 24/7 for check in and check out at any time.

 August 19th at 12 p.m. noon is the final day of summer housing. Residents must make other arrangements for housing between August 19th and the first day of the fall quarter classes.

Rates & Billing

Summer housing is billed on a weekly basis (Sunday-Saturday). A person staying only four days will be charged for the week.

Summer housing room rates for a week is $281.50/week for single and $233/week for double. Your bill will accurately reflect the dates of your stay in summer housing and will be due July 1st.

Housekeeping

Rooms that need special attention, not cleaned, or if something is broken or missing, residents can put in a work order through School Dude.

Emergency Situations

If there is an emergency situation during business hours (Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), call Residential Services at 847-467-4663. If it is after hours, contact the Foster Walker's front desk at 847-467-5801. Examples of emergency situations include fire, flood, electrical, natural gas odor, extreme temperature, etc.

Food Service

Residents may pay cash, or use Cat Cash added to your WildCARD. To learn more about Cat Cash, or to add it to your account, visit the Northwestern Dining website. Alternatively, residents can sign up for a summer meal plan. The Summer Meal Plan form is also available on the Northwestern Dining website.

Students may also stop by the Food Service office to sign up and complete a Summer Meal Plan form at (600 Haven Street, Room # J147.) Scanned completed forms may be forwarded via email to Food@Northwestern.edu. There is a three week minimum to have a summer meal plan added to your account. The cost of the meal plan is $175/week.

Microwaves are available on the first floor lounges in each building. You can bring your own refrigerator, 3 cubic feet or smaller, to have in your room.

Parking

All vehicles parked on-campus require a parking permit. Residents should contact the Parking office at 847-491-3319 or visit, the Northwestern Parking website for information regarding availability of parking permits in addition to rates and lots in which vehicles are permitted to park.
