Video Submission Procedures
Since fall 2009, we have asked RA candidates to submit a one-minute video explaining why they want to be a Resident Assistant. The videos give us a glimpse into each candidate's creativity, public speaking skills and ability to move outside of their comfort zone. The guidelines are simple! Create a one-minute video telling us why you want to be a RA. You can sing a song, perform a skit, or just talk to the camera. Show us your creativity and enthusiasm! The videos are due at the same time as the application and references.
- Prompt: Why do you want to be a RA?
- Length: 1 minute
- Format: Post your video to YouTube and submit the url link in your RA application. When uploading the video, select the "Unlisted" option in the Privacy category (do not select "Private" or "Public"). Please see below for more direction on uploading a YouTube video.
If you do not already have a YouTube account, create an account and post your video to the account. If you are worried about privacy or the fact that other candidates could search for your video, we suggest you use a nonsensical name or series of letters and numbers that will reduce the likelihood of others viewing the video. We recommend that you do not use your name or "RA Candidate" or “Northwestern” in the name of your video. You will be able to include the YouTube link to your video in your RA application.
