Summer Session

Welcome Prospective Summer of 2012 Residents!

Residents enjoy a walk along the lakefill. The number of available rooms for the summer of 2012 will be very limited. For this reason, assignment priority will be given only to those students registered in a Summer Session program sponsored by Northwestern University, including Dance and Music Master Classes as well as Music Masters Students. Should additional rooms be available, they will be offered to students completing research projects with professors at Northwestern University. Unfortunately, housing accommodations cannot be made for individuals who will be unaffiliated with Northwestern University during the summer of 2012. Groups of 3-5 rooms with residents of the same sex share a common restroom with shower and toilet facilities. Restroom facilities will be maintained by building staff; however, residents are responsible for the cleanliness of their individual sleeping rooms.

Rooms are air-conditioned and include the following furnishings: a bed frame and mattress*, a desk with bookshelf, a desk chair, a floor lamp, a set of dresser drawers, and a wardrobe unit with space to hang clothing. All individual rooms come with wall-to-wall carpeting.

* Mattresses in Foster-Walker measure 80 inches long, also known as twin extra-long. A fitted sheet for a regular twin bed will not fit the mattress.

The average room is 9’ wide by 12’ deep.

Residents must provide their own bed linens and towels. Full laundry facilities are located within Foster-Walker complex and may be operated with 25-cent coins (quarters), washers cost $1.00 per load and dryers cost $1.00 per load.

Summer residents will have access to the Internet; however there will be no access to a telephone within their room. Additional information will be provided when summer housing contract information is emailed to residents.

Smoking is prohibited within all areas of Foster-Walker Complex including individual sleeping rooms.

Food Service

Optional board contracts are available to summer housing residents. Board contracts are available to students wishing a meal plan for a minimum of six weeks but not longer than seven weeks.

The summer housing board contract includes 21 meals per week at the Foster-Walker Food Service facility. Meals are assigned on a weekly basis (Sunday-Saturday) with meals starting on Monday, June 18th and running until August 11th. Meals may not be used at any other facility on-campus including the Norris University Center.

Residents will use their student ID (WildCARD) in order to access the Foster-Walker Food Service. Should a resident lose their ID, they will be required to obtain a new ID before they will be permitted to enter the Food Service.

Residents who do not have a summer meal plan are always welcome to pay cash at the Food Service entrance. Meal prices are as follows:

Meal Cost
Breakfast $7.50
Lunch $9.50
Dinner $12.50

Residents may also use cash or create a MunchMoney debit account using their student ID (WildCARD). MunchMoney may be used toward the purchase of a meal in the Foster-Walker Food Service or toward retail food purchases at the Norris University Center. A minimum of $25 must be placed on the card to start an account and additions of $100 or more will receive a 5% bonus (i.e. a $100 deposit will result in $105 MunchMoney on the WildCARD). Visit the Food Services site for more information.

Application Procedure

Below is  the link to the Summer Housing Application:

Summer Housing Application
(The Summer Housing Application is now available)

All applications will be verified with the Office of the Registrar to ensure applicants are in fact registered for summer course work at the University. Prospective residents who will be completing research projects with University professors must ask their professor to submit a letter to the Undergraduate Housing Office naming the student and explaining the work to be completed during the summer. These residents will be accommodated only after all registered students have received room assignments.

Please note: Under no circumstances does submitting an application for summer housing guarantee that a contract will be granted. Available rooms will be assigned to eligible applicants on a first-come first-served basis.

Contracts

Beginning on the 1st of June, contracts will be sent to e-mail addresses provided by applicants and must be signed prior to the resident’s arrival on campus. Be sure to carefully review all information provided with the Contract before signing since the Contract is a binding document.

Contracts may not be terminated early; residents are responsible for all room charges stated on their original Contract. The only exceptions are for residents who are called to military duty, are married, or can no longer reside in Foster-Walker due to a health condition. For military duty and marriage, proper documentation must be provided to the Undergraduate Housing Office before the Contract will be terminated. Health requests should be submitted to Student Health Services.

Mailing Address

Residents will receive confirmation of their room number within Foster-Walker when Contracts are sent to their e-mail address. Mailing addresses will be as follows for summer residents:
