How
to Apply:
The application for the JD-PhD Program is a single, unified
form and is only available in electronic format. Applicants
are required to submit one application (which mirrors the
Graduate School’s application) only and should follow
the instructions for applying to the Graduate School as outlined
on the Graduate School’s website (http://www.northwestern.edu/graduate/admission/adindex.html),
as well as the additional instructions set out below. Note
the specific application deadline information for the JD-PhD
Program below. Separate applications to the Law School and
the Graduate School are not required. The application is reviewed
by both the Graduate School and Law School admissions offices
and each school sometimes awards admission independently if
the joint application review does not result in an offer of
admission. Click here to begin our on-line application https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=nwu-grad.
Additional Supplemental Application Items for the Law School:
A complete application to the JD-PhD program includes all
items required by the Graduate School plus the following.
Interviews:
Although not required, the Law School strongly encourages
all applicants to interview. Acknowledging the importance
of interpersonal and communication skills to succeed in the
legal world, Northwestern is the only law school in the country
that attempts to interview everyone who applies. Please consult
the following website for information about scheduling your
interview with the Law School: http://www.law.northwestern.edu/admissions/applying/interview.html.
LSAT, transcripts, letter of recommendation:
The LSAT examination is a requirement for admission to the
JD-PhD Program and all applicants must register with the Law
School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS) which disseminates LSAT
results, transcripts, and letters of recommendation to law
school admissions offices. As part of that process, you will
be required to supply official transcripts and one letter
of recommendation, specifically for the law school, to the
LSDAS service. Important: You must submit your graduate school
recommendation letter(s) directly to the Graduate School’s
admissions office. Do not submit your Graduate School recommendation(s)
to the LSDAS service. Please consult the following for information
and instructions regarding the LSDAS service: http://www.law.northwestern.edu/admissions/applying/required/lsdas.html.
Financial Aid Application:
If you intend to apply for financial aid, you will need to
complete both the Law School’s and the Graduate School’s
Financial Aid requirements.
