Environment

Wild Roots

Overview

We hope to teach students about gardening and sustainable growing practices, while also encouraging dialogue about the broader food system.

Schedule/ Commitment

Members/volunteers are free to be as involved as they want. We host weekly work days that members can attend when they're free. We also sponsor other events around campus that people are welcome to attend. Members can apply to be exec members every winter/spring.

Community Partners

We work with other student organizations, including Real Food at NU and SEED. However, we also partner with Orrington Elementary a couple times per year to do garden tutorials at their school garden.

Prairie Project

Overview

It's a great service opportunity to hands on work on prairie and forest restoration. The tasks range from seed collection to seed planting to invasive species removal.

Schedule/ Commitment

We do the service project every weekend, but involvement is completely up to the student! They could come once a quarter, once a year, or every week if they wanted to!

Community Partners

Our community partners are North Branch Restoration, Cook County forest preserves, Habitat 2030, and Friends of the Forest Preserve.
