Policy

All student disciplinary files (paper and electronic formats) that involve matters resolved by the Division of Student Affairs are kept in the Office of Judicial Affairs. In these cases, disciplinary matters that result in suspension and/or exclusion from the University are kept permanently. All other disciplinary files are destroyed upon the student’s graduation from Northwestern.

Disclosures to External Third Parties

Disciplinary matters resolved by the Division of Student Affairs that result in suspension and/or exclusion will be reported to external third parties, as required or permitted by law. If a student has any record, a statement explaining our reporting policy will also accompany the request.

Statement to External Third Parties

Northwestern University’s record retention policy for disciplinary matters adjudicated by the Division of Student Affairs is as follows. Student disciplinary files (paper and electronic formats) are maintained by the Office of Judicial Affairs. Disciplinary matters that result in suspension and/or exclusion from the University are kept permanently. All other disciplinary files are destroyed upon the student’s graduation from Northwestern.
