Environmental Council 2000 Workshop
Urban Sustainability, Urban Redevelopment, and Environmental Democracy

Friday, May 5, 2000
at Northwestern University

Organized by:

David Dana, School of Law, Northwestern University

Sponsored by:

Northwestern University's Environmental Council and the Institue for Policy Research

This workshop focuses on the issue of urban sustainability. It will explore such questions as:

  • How can the urban environment be sustained and improved in the face of the traditional focus of the environmental movement on non-urban spaces?

  • Could the environmentally responsible redevelopment of urban areas help combat suburban and exurban sprawl?

  • What challenges do efforts to reinvent the cleanup process for uban brownfields pose for fundamental democratic values?

This workshop is open to all, and should be of interest to a diverse group of faculty, students, policymakers and concerned citizens

For more information about the program and registration, see the conference flyer.
