Heidi Hartmann is president of the Institute
for Women's Policy Research (IWPR), a scientific research organization
in Washington, D.C. that she founded in 1987 to meet the need for
women-centered, policy-oriented research. Widely published, she
is co-author of numerous reports, including "Still
A Man’s Labor Market: The Long-Term Earnings Gap"
(IWPR Report, 2004). Previously, Hartmann was on the faculty of
Rutgers University and the New School for Social Research and worked
at the National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences. In
1994, she received a MacArthur Fellowship Award for her work in
the field of women and economics. Hartmann is vice chair of the
National Council of Women’s Organizations and a research
professor at The George Washington University.
The Institute for Policy Research (IPR) is an interdisciplinary
public policy research institute founded in 1968 at Northwestern
University. Its mission is to stimulate and support excellent social
science research on significant public policy issues and to disseminate
the findings widely to students, scholars, policymakers, and the
public at large.
