Rebecca Blank’s research focuses on the interaction between the macroeconomy, government anti-poverty programs, and the behavior and well-being of low-income families. She is the author or editor of nine books, including her most recent work, the forthcoming Insufficient Funds: Savings, Assets, Credit, and Banking Among Low-Income Families with M. Barr (Russell Sage Foundation Press).
Dr. Blank is the Robert S. Kerr Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Prior to Brookings, she was dean of the University of Michigan’s Ford School of Public Policy and co-director of the National Poverty Center. She served as a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 1997 to 1999 and was a professor of economics and IPR faculty fellow at Northwestern University and director of the Joint Center for Poverty Research. She is a faculty affiliate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

This event is part of IPR’s 40th anniversary celebration and conference. Inequality has been a major theme of interdisciplinary IPR faculty research since the Institute was founded in 1968–69.
