C2S Biomarker Seed Grant Program
Cells to Society (C2S): The Center on Social Disparities and Health at the Institute for Policy Research is pleased to announce the C2S Biomarker Seed Grant Program, supported by a Developmental Infrastructure for Population Research award from National Institutes for Child Health and Development (NICHD).
The purpose of the program is to promote the use of biomarker and other innovative methods in community- and population-based research projects. NIH review panels may question the feasibility of implementing dried blood spot collection, saliva sampling, activity monitoring, or other innovative methods in naturalistic settings. Our seed grant program will provide investigators with funds to support the collection of pilot data that can then be used to increase the likelihood of receiving RO1 funding from NIH.
Investigators may request up to $5,000 to support their pilot research. The next deadline is February 27, 2009. Separate funds have been set aside for “rapid response” requests of $2,000 or less. There is no deadline for rapid response proposal submission. Proposals will be evaluated by the C2S director as well as two members of the C2S Executive Board.
Any C2S faculty member or C2S research faculty may apply.
Submit the following documents to apply for funding through the Biomarker Seed Grant Program:
Pilot research proposal: A four-page proposal following a shortened NIH format. Include specific aims, background and significance, pilot research design and methods, and plans for how the pilot study will be used to support subsequent research. Shorter two-page proposals may be submitted for “rapid response” requests, involving a shorter review process.
Proposals will be evaluated based on their scientific merit, feasibility, relevance to the C2S Biomarker Core and C2S signature research themes, and the likelihood that seed grant support will lead to success with subsequent NIH funding requests.
